Toby was born 10 weeks prematurely

Toby Cox is a 5-year old boy from Bradley Stoke, Bristol born with Cerebral Palsy. Toby finds walking, playing and sitting, difficult and uncomfortable. During his first few days of life Toby was very poorly and needed resuscitating as he could not breathe by himself. However, Toby did recover quite quickly and was sent home from hospital after 3 weeks weighing only 3.11lbs!!! We quickly noticed that Toby was not reaching his milestones and at 5 months old he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy – spastic diplegia.

The Treatment

Cerebral Palsy is treated in the UK with a combination of Botox, Physio and eventually muscle/tendon lengthening surgery. However in other countries SDR is the first procedure of choice, therefore ridding the child of spasticity at an early age and allowing normal muscle/bone growth.

Toby has been offered the chance of an operation in America that will remove the spasticity in his legs allowing him to walk unaided and for the first time feel comfort at a level that we all take for granted.

This operation will cost £36,000. Please help us to raise it!

• The Future

  Walking independently, running with your friends, jumping on a trampoline, sitting on a slide, skipping – these are all things that 5 year-old Toby cannot do but so desperately wants to. Oh he tries, with physical help and support, but he wants to be independent and do them all by himself. Without the surgery – that is impossible.

• After the Operation...

  Any monies now donated to Toby will be used to help fund his very important after care. This will include Private Physiothereapy, Aqua Therapy and any addtional equipment needed to help Toby recover and to reach his maximum potential following the operation. The after-care period is typically an 18 month long programme.
